Michael is a saxophonist, flutist and EWI (Electronic Wind Instrument) player based in New York and Montreal. He is currently in his third year at McGill University, studying Jazz Performance with a minor in Business Management. He gets inspirations from the saxophone greats, such as Sonny Rollins, Hank Mobley, and Michael Brecker. Growing up on rock and roll and funk, Michael discovered the saxophone at a young age and eventually started studying jazz. In high school, he worked hard to play every gig he could find, and worked as a teacher’s assistant at a local music school. Now at university, he is studying jazz harmony, improvisation and composition. Michael has also studied piano and has taught himself to play drum set.

Often described as easy-going and a confident leader, he tends to lead groups and initiate projects. With a growing background in business, he uses his skills to further his understanding of the music industry. After having an internship canceled in the summer of 2020, Michael built upon skills he learned in an Audio Production class to start producing and mixing recording projects. At university, he is the mixing engineer for many projects, and plans to pursue this path further.

“The accolades are stilling coming in from the outstanding concert the Michael Gorlin Jazz Trio put on here at The Knolls.  Our residents are a very seasoned group when it comes to music, and attend concerts on a regular basis all around Westchester County.  They were so impressed with the skill and passion in which you all played, and the absolutely perfect selection of music you made for the audience. You all had such a wonderful sense of presence; it was so impressive. It was a pleasure working with you. Your professionalism and attention to details were wonderful. Thank you.”

“Michael is an absolute gem of a person and an extraordinary saxophone teacher. He taught our fifteen year old son how to play the saxophone and continues to inspire him weekly beyond measure. Michael is not only an extremely talented smooth and magnificent saxophone player himself, but he has the rare magic of connecting with each individual student and enabling them to learn and thrive musically. He is a spectacular teacher.”
